Title Of Project: Community-Based Internships To Address Environmental Issues
Focus: Addresses the health issues that disproportionately affect communities of lower socio-economic status, particularly minority populations. This project aims to educate and empower communities with the necessary tools to address environmental concerns. Graduate-level students that have formally committed to attaining degrees in Environmental and Occupational Health are placed in community-based organizations to work in communities. As part of their academic and professional development, the student live in the communities for three months. Their work focuses on disease and disability prevention. Central to the process is increasing and enhancing community resident’s knowledge of environmental issues, and health threats which may increase the opportunity for exposure to contaminants.
