2010 Facts About The 24th Annual Symposium

Of the 299 students who participated in this year’s conference, students’
self-described their race and ethnicity as follows:
 
76%              African American
3%                American Indian/Alaska Native
3%                Asian American/Pacific Islander
1%                Caucasian
13%              Hispanic American/Latino
4%                Multi-racial
 
Gender
 
65% (194) of participants were female and 35% (105) were male.
 
Educational Level
 
For educational levels, 71% (212) were in high school, while 29% (87) were in college.
 
GPA
 
Mean GPA: 3.77 on 4.0 scale
 
Geographic Distribution
 
For the most part, participants of the Symposium were recruited from states where AMHPS member institutions are located. States that had participants attend the Symposium included: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
