Established in 1983, the Minority Health Professions Foundation is an non-profit, educational, scientific and charitable 501(c)(3) organization that provides support for professional education, research and community service efforts that promote optimum health among poor and minority people. It does this by engaging the collaborative resources, scholarship and technology of minority health professions schools.

The member institutions of the Minority Health Professions Foundation include eleven medical, dental, pharmacy and veterinary medicine schools in historically African American colleges and universities. Together, these institutions have produced 50% of the nation's African American physicians, 50% of the nation's African American dentists, 60% of the nation's African American pharmacists and 75% of the nation's African American veterinarians.

Collectively, these institutions are regarded as the nation's leading authority on minority health; their acknowledged leadership role in professional education, primary care, community service and research has made them an increasingly more important voice on the current health care scene.
