1. Does the Association for Minority Health Professions Schools (AMHPS) offer scholarships or other financial supports for students attending graduate or professional schools?
We offer financial support in the form of summer fellowships and internships for graduate and professional students. We do not offer scholarships or fellowships that cover tuition, room/board, and/or other incidentals for students pursing an undergraduate, graduate or professional degree.
2. As a university faculty, are there opportunities for the AMHPS to fund/support any of my research interests?
The AMHPS aggressively pursues and supports opportunities for faculty at our member institutions to further their research interests in the areas of health disparities and environmental health concerns. These opportunities are made known through the Research Advisory Council (RAC), who disseminates the information to their individual member institution community.
3. I am a high school student and I am interested in the Annual Symposium on Career Opportunities in Biomedical Sciences and Health Professions. I live in a state not represented by an AMHPS member institution, what should I do?
You can contact the Symposium Planning Committee Representative closest to your state and apply through them. Each year, the Association provides support for its member institutions to sponsor students outside of their immediate geographic area to attend the Symposium. The number of students sponsored by the Foundation fluctuates yearly, depending on revenue.
4. How can I or my school join the Association?
Membership in the Association of Minority Health Professions Schools is comprised of medical and professional schools at the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States. Academic Deans and Presidents interested in joining the Association should contact the Chair of the Board of Directors for further inquiry.
