BIOMEDICAL SYMPOSIUM
Robert N. Black, Sr. Scholarship Award
Dr. Keith L. Black, an internationally renowned neurosurgeon and
scientist, established a $2,000 scholarship in honor of his father,
Mr. Robert N. Black, Sr., a retired teacher and administrator. Robert
N. Black, Sr. has had a distinguished educational career that spanned
thirty-seven years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Alabama
State University, a master’s degree in Educational Administration
from the University of Pennsylvania and his ED.S. degree from Kent
State.
All students attending the Biomedical Symposium are eligible to
participate. The scholarship will be given to the student who demonstrates
commitment to their studies, enthusiasm and social and cultural
awareness. The criteria and requirements for entry are as follows:
• Participating students must have 3.5 GPA or higher.
• Students must write a one-page essay about their interest
in science.
• Essay should be 12-point font, double-spaced with a minimum
of 300 words.
• Students must receive two letters of recommendation from
a counselor/student affairs representative and teacher/professor
nominating student(s) for the award. Recommendations must
include students’ grade point average, community involvement
(volunteer experience) and
interest in science and leadership skills (participation
in associations/organizations).
• The nominee must be a student attending the Annual Symposium.
Each institution can submit up to twenty applications, 10 each
from high school and undergraduate students. The student(s) must
meet the above criteria to qualify for the
Robert N. Black, Sr. Scholarship Award.

are due no later than January 13, 2006 and should be forwarded
